Florida, St. Mary, Star of the Sea has
always been an important foothold of
Christianity in America. During the early
missionary years of Florida as a Spanish
Territory, Key West probably fell under the
auspices of the Diocese of Havana, Cuba,
which would have been the closest
diocese with ties to Key West.
